Welcome to THE SPOT — The Soft-Life Headquarters of Sterkspruit.

      · My Story Time

There are places you walk into, and then there are places that walk straight into your soul, sit down uninvited, cross their legs, and say, “Sweetheart, we’ve been expecting you.”

That is exactly what happened when I found myself at THE SPOT, on 148 Don Tsembeyi Street in Sterkspruit — a magical little universe built with flavour, culture, charm, and the kind of contagious joy that makes you forget every stressful WhatsApp message you’ve ever received.

The moment I stepped in, the vibe wrapped itself around me like a warm blanket, whispering, “Relax, bhabha. Sterkspruit will take it from here.”

The food alone deserves a standing ovation from the whole African Union. The chicken is so tender it could negotiate world peace. The seasoning tastes like someone’s grandmother was humming gospel into the pot. The chips are crispy enough to audition for an action movie.

Every bite felt like a love letter addressed specifically to me, with my name handwritten in cursive. I was sitting there minding my business and simultaneously falling in love with my plate. THE SPOT Sterkspruit, you did not have to go this hard — but you DID, and we thank you.

Right in the middle of all this greatness stands the visionary behind the space: Mkhontowesizwe Majodina — a young man whose brilliance sneaks up on you like a soft amapiano bassline and then hits you with full force.

His influence is everywhere: in the warmth of the staff, the smoothness of the vibe, the intention behind the décor, and the undeniable magic in the air. He didn’t just create a restaurant or a hangout spot — he birthed a cultural landmark, the kind of place where you instantly know, “Yes, this is where the cool kids and the healed ancestors hang out.”

And then… oh, then came the herb section. As someone who advocates for the decriminalisation of cannabis — not just socially, but economically too, because honestly this plant could fix unemployment, GDP growth, and half our municipal budgets if we handled it properly — I nearly cried wholesome tears of joy at the elegant herb display prodcuts.

The selection was so good it deserved its own national anthem and possibly diplomatic immunity.

The craftsmanship? Elite. The variety? Olympic. The knowledge these folks have about herb made me feel like I was attending a TED Talk curated by the ancestors and co-hosted by Haile Selassie himself. Cannabis here is not treated like a taboo — it is honoured as a cultural, medicinal, spiritual and economic powerhouse.

I felt respected. I felt validated. I felt like the promised land finally got free Wi-Fi, solar power, AND five flavour options.

And just when I thought this establishment had shown me everything — boom — they reveal that they have a hair salon inside the place. Yes, babe. A whole salon. Inside. So while you’re vibing, eating, laughing, or discussing the economic liberation potential of cannabis, you can literally get your hair slayed, your nails done, your edges revived, and your spirit moisturised — all at once.

Honestly, where else can you enjoy crispy chips, premium herb, soulful music, and a fresh twist-out in the same building? It’s giving “one-stop lifestyle centre.” It’s giving soft life efficiency. It’s giving, “I came for lunch and left looking like a brand-new influencer.”

The staff? Pure angels with drip. These are the kind of people who greet you like you’ve known each other in a past life. Their kindness is effortless, their warmth genuine, and their professionalism wrapped in personality.

They serve you like your happiness is part of their monthly KPIs. You sit down as a stranger and within minutes you feel like you’ve been adopted into a family you didn’t know you needed. If customer service were a sport, these folks would be undefeated world champions.

And let me tell you about the Operations Manager — the quiet powerhouse behind the smooth flow of THE SPOT. This man runs things with effortless confidence, making sure everything works like magic.

He’s calm, attentive, sharp, and somehow everywhere at once — checking on customers, guiding staff, and maintaining the vibe without breaking a sweat.

You can feel his leadership in the warmth of the team and the flawless service. Truly, he’s the engine that keeps THE SPOT shining.

And then there is the music — sweet heavens. This spot is where playlists go to be baptised, anointed, and reborn. One moment you’re gently nodding to amapiano, the next you’re lost in Afro-soul, and before you know it, reggae slides in, grabs your shoulders, and makes them dance without your permission.

You don’t choose to vibe here. The vibe chooses you. Your feet start tapping. Your spirit starts soft-lifing. Even your inner child starts healing. It’s involuntary therapy through rhythm.

What truly seals the experience is the beauty of the people who walk through the doors. Sterkspruit really said, “Beauty, come forward.” Everyone looked like they woke up and said, “Let me serve a look today.”

Stunning queens, stylish gents, fashionable friends — the place was glowing like Beyoncé had installed the lighting herself. The atmosphere felt like a runway where everyone is the main character, and confidence is the dress code.

I honestly enjoyed myself so much at THE SPOT that I forgot my problems, my deadlines, and even the existence of Eskom. I laughed, I ate, I vibed, I glowed — and for a few magical hours, life felt soft, simple, and beautifully human.

I was surrounded by good people, great music, perfect food, and an atmosphere that just pours happiness into your chest. By the time I got up to leave, I wasn’t the same person who walked in; I left lighter, brighter, and fully convinced that joy is a place — and that place is THE SPOT.

THE SPOT at 148 Don Tsembeyi Street is not just a spot — it is an ecosystem of joy, flavour, culture, laughter, beauty, and herb-powered enlightenment.

It’s a sanctuary for good food, good vibes, good people, and good hair. If you ever find yourself in Sterkspruit — intentionally, accidentally, spiritually, or via a wrong turn — you owe it to your soul to visit.

Go laugh. Go eat. Go vibe. Go inhale joy. Go get a fresh fade. Go get your nails done. Go experience excellence crafted with heart.

This place? It’s giving home. It’s giving multi-purpose magic. It’s giving “I’m definitely coming back.”
      And trust me… you will.
