Every year, governments, development agencies, universities, foundations, and private sector leaders gather to discuss Africa's future.
Strategies are developed, policies are drafted, and commitments are made toward building a more prosperous, peaceful, and sustainable continent. Yet too often, the very people who will inherit that future are absent from the table.
The African Union Students' Platform (AUSP) was established to change that.
Across the continent, AUSP is creating spaces where young Africans can lead conversations, influence policy, build partnerships, develop solutions, and contribute meaningfully to the Africa envisioned in Agenda 2063.
Through its programmes and initiatives, AUSP is not merely organising events—it is nurturing a generation of leaders committed to building a just, inclusive, and sustainable Africa.
Africa is the youngest continent in the world. More than sixty percent of our population is under the age of twenty-five.
Every day, millions of young Africans wake up with aspirations of becoming entrepreneurs, researchers, innovators, policymakers, community leaders, scientists, educators, and advocates for change. They carry with them ideas capable of transforming communities, strengthening institutions, and unlocking Africa's vast potential.
Yet talent alone is not enough. Across the continent, many young people continue to face barriers that limit their ability to participate meaningfully in shaping their societies. Access to leadership opportunities, mentorship, networks, funding, education, and decision-making spaces remains uneven.
As a result, countless young people with the potential to contribute to Africa's development are left without the support necessary to realise their ambitions.
If we do not invest in Africa's youth today, who will lead Africa tomorrow?
This question lies at the heart of AUSP's work and continues to inspire initiatives such as the International Pan-African Youth Conference (IPAYC), one of the continent's growing platforms for youth engagement, leadership development, collaboration, and innovation.
From 21–23 October 2026, young leaders, students, entrepreneurs, innovators, researchers, policymakers, activists, creatives, and community organisers from across Africa and beyond will gather in Nairobi, Kenya, for the 3rd Annual International Pan-African Youth Conference under the theme:
"Pan-African Youth for a Just, Inclusive and Sustainable Africa."
The conference is more than a gathering. It is a movement of young Africans determined to shape the future of their continent. It is a space where ideas become partnerships, partnerships become initiatives, and initiatives become lasting impact.
It is a platform where young people from different countries, cultures, languages, and backgrounds come together to learn from one another, build solidarity, and develop solutions to some of Africa's most pressing challenges.
The challenges facing our continent—including unemployment, inequality, climate change, conflict, migration, governance deficits, and barriers to education and economic opportunity—cannot be solved without meaningful youth participation.
Young people are not merely beneficiaries of development; they are active architects of Africa's future. They bring innovation, energy, creativity, and lived experience to the conversations that will shape the decades ahead.
Over the years, the International Pan-African Youth Conference has helped connect emerging leaders, strengthen networks, amplify youth voices, and create opportunities for collaboration across borders. However, the success and sustainability of this work cannot rest on the shoulders of young people alone.
Building a generation of leaders requires long-term investment, strategic partnerships, and institutions that believe in the transformative power of youth.
This is why AUSP is calling on governments, development partners, universities, diplomatic missions, philanthropic foundations, corporate leaders, civil society organisations, and stakeholders across the SADC region and the African continent to join us in strengthening this important platform.
We are seeking support not only for the successful delivery of the 2026 conference but also for the long-term sustainability of youth leadership development, innovation, entrepreneurship, research, advocacy, and civic engagement programmes that continue long after the conference has ended.
We believe that investing in young Africans should not be viewed as a once-off contribution to an event but as a strategic investment in the future leadership, stability, and prosperity of the continent.
Support may take many forms, including conference sponsorships, scholarships for young delegates, travel support, mentorship programmes, research collaborations, technical assistance, strategic partnerships, investments in youth innovation, and long-term institutional support that enables youth-led initiatives to thrive.
Every contribution creates opportunities for young Africans who are committed to building stronger communities, more accountable institutions, and a more united continent. Every partnership strengthens a movement dedicated to ensuring that African youth are not only heard but empowered to lead.
The Africa envisioned in Agenda 2063 cannot be built without young people. Equally, young people cannot build that Africa without meaningful investment from those who have the resources, influence, and capacity to support them.
The future of Africa is being shaped today, and the decisions we make now will determine whether the next generation inherits a continent of opportunity or a continent of missed potential.
Today, we extend an invitation to all stakeholders who share this vision.
